ND 1947-1949 100 Francs from French Guiana, Caisse centrale de la France d'Outre-Mer. Pick # 23s serial # O.0 00000. Graded 65 PPQ (Premium Paper Quality) Gem New by PCGS. And this is a population of two with none graded finer according to PMG population report. Splendid over sized rare Specimen Banknote from French Guiana, with great margins on a white fresh paper that still holds its color as if it was printed today! Embossing is very strong and it can easily be seen through the plastic holder. Such in an Outstanding condition. The word "GUYANE" is printed on each margin in red ink on both sides of the note. The word "SPECIMEN" is in black bold overprint handstamp sideways on the front and back of the note located on the right and left side. And also the word "SPECIMEN" was perforated on the center of the banknote. The note is printed in the french language. A lot of lovely designs and colors can be admired. La Bourdonnais portrait is at left and to the right there are two native women from Guiana, one of them is showing one of her breasts because she is using that hand to carry the fruit is seen on this portrait. The back of the note shows another woman looking at the scenery of a lake and mountains, it seems as if she is also a native of this country. Red, brown on Multicolored. All postel-Vinay signature. Watermark: Marianne. This is such a rare banknote to find in this grade. Very desirable among collectors.

Bertrand-Francois Mahe, comte de La Bourdonnais at left was a French naval officer and administrator, in the service of the French East India Company. in 1735 he returned to French service as governor of the Isle de France (now Mauritius) and the Île de Bourbon (Réunion). His first five years' administration of the islands was vigorous and successful.

In 1888 the Banque de la Guyane introduced 100 and 500 francs notes, followed by 25 francs in 1910. Emergency issues of 1 and 2 francs notes were made between 1917 and 1919 with regular-type 5 francs notes introduced in 1922. Further emergency issues of 1 and 2 francs were made between 1942 and 1945. 1000 francs notes were introduced in 1942. In 1941, the Caisse Centrale de France Libre (Central Cashier of the Free French) began issuing paper money, in denominations of 100 and 1000 francs. These were followed, in 1944, by similar notes in the same denominations issued by the Caisse Centrale de la France d'Outre Mer (France). In 1947, the Caisse Centrale de la France d'Outre Mer took over the issuance of all paper notes; 50, 100, 500, 1000 and 5000. These notes shared their designs with the notes issued for Guadeloupe and Martinique.

A specimen banknote is printed generally in very limited quantities for distribution to central banks to aid in the recognition of banknotes from a country other than their own. In some cases, specimen banknotes are printed in less limited quantities distributed to commercial banks, or even to commercial enterprises and the public at large in order to familiarize users about new designs. In addition, specimen banknotes are sold in some countries to collectors (often in special commemorative folders or albums).

Note- Due to the new and burgeoning world currency market, PCGS has not yet made public a world currency population report. PCGS is slated to publish a population database in the coming months. Until that time, Trusted Traditions World has used the PMG population reports solely as a guide to help evaluate the rarity of all of our notes. PMG grades a higher volume of world paper money submissions, so we feel this is a very accurate evaluation of rarity and scarcity. Should your needs require, we are happy to request from PCGS an exact population report on a case by case basis.
