1967 1 Rand from South Africa. Pick # 109b and serial # B/247 692428. This is a beautiful note that was given grade 66 EPQ (Exceptional Paper Quality) Gem Uncirculated by PMG. According to Population Report from PMG, this note is one out of the three in this level of grade. Jan van Riebeeck is on the left of the front of the note. He was the man who settled in the Cape of Good Hope in 1652. His arrival marked the beginning of permanent European settlement in the region. He was under strict instructions not to colonize the region but to build a fort and to erect a flagpole for signaling to ships and boats to escort them into the bay. The day of Jan Van Riebeeck's arrival became a public holiday and is celebrated as Founder's Day until 1994 when it was abolished. Until this day, statues of Riebeeck and his wife remain in Cape Town. On the reverse side of the note are rams in the field. The watermark on this note is of a springbok. The color of this is dark reddish brown.
